Member of Parliament for Mwanza West constituency Joyce Chitsulo says beyond being a fount of knowledge with respect to the institution of traditional leadership, the institution plays a critical role in promoting peace and unity, deepening coexistence and spearheading government's socioeconomic plans.
She was speaking on Monday, December 2, 2024 after the Vice President Dr Michael Usi toured the houses of Senior Traditional Authorities Nthache and Govati in her constituency among other development projects.
In her remarks, Chitsulo said that her covenant with the voters is to about development and not politics.
"Our traditional leaders are the backbone of our social fabric.The institution remains at the heart of our democracy and inclusive development that government of president Chakwera has embarked on. To this effect, I would like to assure the Vice President Dr Micha Usi that she and her constituency will continue to work closely with government and social partners with an aim of building a sustainable nation that will deliver on the needs of the community, such as clean water, clinics, good roads and bridges, school blocks, houses for the elderly among others," she said.
In his speech Vice President Dr Michael Usi said government is committed to continue working with traditional leaders and opposition parties with an of restoring dignity by eradicating poverty from the masses.
