Secretary General of the ruling Malawi Congress Party-MCP Richard Chimwendo Banda has refuted reports propagated by the main opposition party, the democratic Progressive Party-DPP and its media operatives that there has been conspiracy by the ruling party to stop him from standing by bringing an Age Bill Limit which is aimed at barring Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
But speaking today at Thambani Community ground, Chimwendo said those who are fabricating these are lies are trying to get sympathy from voters and that they are enemies of democracy.
"MCP under President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is confident of winning handsomely in September with or without Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on the ballot box. In fact we want him to stand so that we can easily retire him from active politics. MCP will win based on what it has so far delivered to the people of Malawi and not parading conjuncture in the public domain in order to win sympathy vote," said Chimwendo Banda who is also Minister of Local Government Unity and Culture.
Chimwendo has since urged Malawians to disregard the issue as pure propaganda by the DPP themselves.
