It is often stated that one of the best measures of how progressive a country is- by how it treats it's older citizens and in Mwanza West constituency it has over the past four years dramatically improved looking at the way seniors dignified.
In her remarks, Chitsulo said these small houses that she has embarked constructing for the seniors will be used a towering symbol of a legacy of good works and proof of the wisdom that our seniors have so far sacrificed in attaining independence and democracy in the country.
"Our nation but particularly Mwanza West constituency remains indebted to our seniors. Their names must be enshrined in letters of gold on our history because they have helped to enhance and defend the brand of this country, putting their lives on the line. We must therefore, work tirelessly to protect older persons from abuse and exploitation and ensuring that they live in safety and security and as country enact a legal frameworks to strengthening their rights mainly on issues of inheritance and property rights," said Chitsulo who so far constructed several houses for the elderly.
Apart from giving them small houses, Chitsulo also provide them with small amount of money monthly and that their houses are solar powered, give them affordable healthcare and working tooth and nail to combat age discrimination.
"I,.therefore, urge the youths to help in defending the rights of the elderly by giving them respect. I would also tell everyone to stop isolating our elders because that can be devastating and urge the community to foster a culture of inclusion," she urged.
