Senior Chief Govati, others hail Chakwera for appointing their 'daughter' Chitsulo in cabinet; MCP is a party of development

A contingent of close to 130 traditional leaders in Mwanza West constituency on Sunday, January 19, 2025 hailed President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for appointing their Member of Parliament, Joyce Chitsulo as Deputy Minister of Local Government Unity and Culture and signalled that the move indicates that Chakwera is unifier and a peace - loving leader apart from being developmental conscious.

The traditional authorities were speaking at Kalanga Primary School where Chitsulo presided over the finals of K10 million trophy second round which rangers won on post match penalties.

In his remarks, Senior Traditional Authority Govati said it is pleasing to note that President Chakwera has entrusted their 'daughter' to be in one of the critical ministries that are mandated to spur socioeconomic transformation of the country at critical juncture like this one.

"We congratulate you honourable Deputy Minister for being honoured by the president to serve him. We believe your appointment is a blessing not only to your family but the whole constituency because now, we shall see "frequent developments" taking place in this area and we thank the president for that gesture." said Govati speaking on behalf of fellow traditional leaders.

Govati reminded his people that most of the developments that are seen in his area today were constructed by late Dr Kamuzu Banda and now the same MCP is doing under the Dr Lazarus Chakwera which demonstrates that MCP is the only party that cares about the people of Mwanza West constituency.

In her response, Chitsulo described the local leaders as bedrock of development, culture, unity and democracy hence need for closer partnership.

"Am really humbled by the president appointment. I didn't expect it but through the grace of God, am here today to testify that am the Deputy Minister in his cabinet. I do not take that for granted and I promise to serve him with total dedication and deligence.

"Am also thanking you my seniors for good working relationship that exists between us. Your love and care to me is highly appreciated and that i vow not to disappoint you," said Chitsulo.

Chitsulo also assured the traditional leaders that her ministry will continue to create an environment that will enable the institution of traditional leadership to function effectively and contribute in strengthening the country's democratic system, spur socioeconomic development, while  spearheading the crusade on peace and unity in the country.

During the football match, Ranger Fc beat Kayera FC on post match penalties after drawing 2-2 during regular time. They went away with K1.2 million, footfall jerseys, footballs and sports bags.
