PRESIDENT CHAKWERA DONATES K5 MILLION TO SPECIAL SDA CAMP MEETING IN DOWA: Deputy Minister Chitsulo urges church to pray for peaceful elections, lauds church for partnering with govt to transform the country

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has urged the religious institutions in the country to fervently pray for a peaceful, violent - free and successful general elections which have been dubbed as landmark by political analysts in the country.

Representing President Chakwera at this year's Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Central Malawi Conference Special Easter Camp which is taking place at Chiaview in Dowa District today, April 19, 2025 was Deputy Minister of Local Government Unity and Culture, Joyce Chitsulo who acknowledged and emphsized the critical role the church prays during elections by teaching their members the importance of peace and stability in the country.

"President Chakwera is asking the SDA church to continue praying unceasingly for peaceful elections. He is asking the church leaders to use the pulpit to educate its members on their civic responsibilities so as to help them exercise their franchise wisely in the polls.

"Being a country of God- fearing and law- biding citizens who believe in the efficacy of prayers, the church assembled here today, must pray to the almighty God for peace to reign from now on, before, during and after the general elections," said Chitsulo who is Member of Parliament for Mwanza West constituency.

Chitsulo also lauded the SDA church for the critical role it plays in socioeconomic development of the country.

"The SDA is a cherished institution in our country. Over many decades it has made an invaluable contribution to peace, unity, development and transformation.It has been a source of hope, guidance and inspiration not only to members of the Christian faith, but to all Malawians.The church has always been deeply concerned about the conditions in which our people live and has worked to improve their lives in various sectors such as health and education among others,"said Chitsulo.

The Deputy Minister also announced that President Chakwera has donated K5 million towards the Special Camp Meeting which is under the theme of "Ready or not : Behold, He comes" taken from the book of Revelation 22:20.

Guest preacher at this year's gathering is Pastor Jonas Singo from the Republic of Tanzania.

Notable high ranking members of the church who attended the opening session were President of SDA in Malawi Pastor Tony Y. Nyirenda, Dr Thomson Mpinganjira and his spouse, Dr Ernest Kaonga Founder of Maranatha Schools among others
