POOR WASTE MANAGEMENT CAN BE FATAL;Reduce, reuse, recycle for development, waste management- Deputy Minister Chitsulo advises

The Deputy Minister of Local Government Unity and Culture, Joyce Chitsulo has urged the Lilongwe City Council to utilize the catapillar machinery effectively and to engage waste recycling companies to improve waste management practices.

She was appreciating the Lilongwe City Council for acquiring a K699 million dozer which will help to enhance waste management and promote safe and clean environment.

"My ministry is committed in ensuring that it aligned with Malawi 2063 development goals by among others it possible that all cities are safe, clean and habitable," said Chitsulo who is also Member of Parliament for Mwanza West constituency.


Chitsulo also said that it is good that the residents and the authorities understand this principle of Reduce, reuse, recycle for development.

In her remarks, Lilongwe City Mayor, Esther Sagawa, assured the Deputy Minister and the people of Lilongwe that her institution will implement measures to that can help to extend the lifespan of the machinery.

She has also expressed gratitude to the Development Fund for Local Authorities for the financial support.

Sagawa also disclosed that plans are underway to relocate the dumpsite to a proposed site near Nalikule College.

It has transpired that the procurement of the machinery will reduce reliance on private companies,saving K15 million monthly on waste management equipment.
