MP Joyce Chitsulo reiterates that quality education is key to ending poverty

Mwanza West Member of Parliament Joyce Chitsulo says universal access to education is by far the most critical intervention in breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty and that it is only effective remedy to overcome hunger and disease in the country.

Chitsulo spoke this when she inspected the construction of Chilanga CDSS in Senior Traditional Authority, Govati which has been billed at K500 million.

Speaking to the community after her inspection, Chitsulo said the community has responsibility to support the young people to attain education and create a society free of disease and hunger.

"Building a capable nation can only be achieved after the community invest in school constructions and make education compulsory as weapon of transforming the community while giving them necessary materials for them to succeed. Therefore, my appeal to teachers and parents is that they must collaborate as one way of defending the rights of children to education while keeping an eye on the future of the nation," she said.

Chitsulo also urged the parents to value the importance of pre- primary education as game- changer.

"Am appealing to my fellow parents  and guardians to send their children to preschool because it has proved to be critical. Children who attend preschool are more likely to go primary school on time, less likely to drop out or repeat in same class and  more likely to complete primary, secondary and University education, she urged.

Chitsulo has since appealed to the donor community and other well wishers to help her constituency with more school blocks and learning materials for the pupils and learners
