Deputy Minister of Local Government Unity and Culture Joyce Chitsulo on Sunday, March 16, 2025, extended her greetings on the occasion of Holi, a Hindu festival, which is marked by expressing hope that the occasion would bring harmony, joy and coexistence while strengthening national unity.
Chitsulo who was the Guest of Honour at the function, in Lilongwe, said cultural festivals are bedrock of socioeconomic development and unity hence need to uphold them.
"On behalf of Malawi Government, I would like to extend my best wishes to the Indian community who are celebrating this Holi Festival. It is my understanding that the festival will foster unity a s strengthen social bonds and enhance bilateral cooperation between Malawi and India," said Chitsulo.
Speaking earlier, Indian High Commissioner, Subbinah Gopalakrishnan said his government delights in cultural preservation as cornerstone of unity and coexistence.
Rooted in mythology and tradition, Holi represents new beginnings and spreading positivity. Traditionally, Holi celebrations start with Holika Dahan, a bonfire lit on the eve of the festival, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.
