Deputy Minister of Local Government Unity and Culture Joyce Chitsulo has expressed her profound condolences to the Royal Family of late Sub- Traditional Authority Mbera and the nation for his demise.
Delivering her message of condolences on behalf of President Dr Lazarus Chakwera at burial ceremony in Balaka on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, Chitsulo said President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is saddened by the death of the Mbera whose real name was Wailesi Mbwana.
"President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is deeply saddened on the passing of his Chief. This means that he las lost a revered leader who has the distinction of leading his people with humility and contributed significantly to the socioeconomic development of the country. He will be remembered for being the staunchest defender of his people, their customs and a deep sense of identity and nationhood," said Chitsulo.
On his part, Paramount Chief Kawinga concured with the Deputy by calling upon unity among the bereaved family when identifying the heir to the throne.
Said Kawinga: " Most of the chieftaincy wrangles end up in court because of lack of tolerance among the family, and this jorpadises the whole process as it takes too long to be completed as we know our courts are never free."
Council Chairperson of Balaka District Council Councilor Pharao Kambiri said as a council they shall always remember the departed STA for his dynamic leadership as his area was always well organized and ready to adopt new things for its development.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Frank Jomo expressed his heart felt sorrow saying the departed STA Mbera was all jovial.
"Said Joko: " Those that were around here Monday, you saw him seated on his veranda, he was full of life but we respect that everyone has his or her way of departing from this world.
" We will miss him for his kind leadership, he was there for everyone and a patriotic leader who was ready to assist whenever asked, we shall miss his as a family."
Born on 6th January,1933, STA Mbera was installed as STA on 17th August, 2017 and is survived by a wife and four children. He died of Blood Pressure.
